NeuroSupport Centre, Liverpool
Neurosupport provides advice, information and support to people with a neurological condition, their families and health and social care professionals. It is also concerned to raise the awareness of neurological conditions in the community at large. There is a comprehensive library with information on a large number of neurological conditions and related disability issues; an enquiry service, bi-monthly newsletter and website. The Working Life Service, part of Neurosupport, offers support and advice to people with neurological disorders on issues surrounding employment, work retention, retraining and alternatives to work.
The Centre holds a number of different advice and information sessions, based on both individual disabilities and generic issues, including welfare benefits and counselling. It holds regular exhibitions and awareness raising events on matters such as holidays for disabled people, aids to communication, book launches, theatre productions and open days. Neurosupport facilitates a number of support groups and provides meeting and conference facilities for many more. It also provides office accommodation for a number of neurological charities.
The
Brain Tumour support group was set up in 2006, as a joint initiative by Maureen Kelly at Neurosupport and Tony Murphy, the PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) Officer at the Walton Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. It aims to meet 3-4 times a year and gives patients and family members an opportunity to meet with other people in similar situations, as well as hear talks from neurologists, specialist nurses and neuropsychologists. To join the group, please contact Tony Murphy on

The Walton Centre has recently started to run a newly diagnosed course called “Coping better Together.” This is a 4 week course, held at Neurosupport, with funding from Macmillan
Cancer Care. Members of the support group have had an input into the content of the course and attend the sessions to provide peer support and to encourage people to join the support group once the course has finished.
