| Term | Definition | |
| Malignant | A cancerous tumour that can invade and destroy nearby tissue and may spread to other parts of the body. | |
| Margin | The edge or border of the tissue removed in cancer surgery. | |
| Medial | In the middle or inside, as opposed to lateral. | |
| Median survival | Median means the middle value. An equal number of people live longer as die earlier than the median. | |
| Metastases | Cancerous tumours in any part of the body as a result of spread from the original (primary) origin. | |
| MRI | Magnetic Resonance Imaging. A scanning device that uses a magnetic field, radio waves and a computer. Signals emitted by normal and diseased tissue during the scan are assembled into an image. | |
| Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) | Team of clinicians, nurses and other health professional who work together to deliver care to patients and carers. | |
