Alternative medicine 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi,

Any suggestions on what can help the effects of radiotherapy? My brother had a week of radiotherapy and since then we have decided to alter our diet to cancer fighting foods and we have been suggested red fruits, green vegetables, coriander leaf, garlic etc and also to use selium products to help the body fight cancer and would like to ask if anyone can suggest anything else to help fight this dreadful condition?

Hi there,
I've heard that the tart cherry juice (from Holland and Barratt) is very good, so my dad has been having that every day since his op and during radiotherapy. He's also taking multivitamins and having a very good diet.
The belief is that sugar feeds cancer, so he has cut his sugar down a lot - though he still likes the odd pint at home, but then it keeps him happy, which is what life is all about I guess!
My dad had his six weeks of radiotherapy after debulking surgery to remove most of his GBM4 in November. At his last scan we were told the tumour has gone, so who knows whether the foodstuffs have helped, however he is certainly not going to stop taking them!
In addition, I think relaxation and staying stress-free goes a very long way in fighting cancer, and my dad has been incredibly laid back and relaxed throughout the whole process. We are going to start sending him for back massages every so often to give his system a boost. All of these things help the immune system, anyway, so our hope is that he can keep the cancer at bay for the foreseeable future.
I hope this has been of some help - I wish your brother the very best and hope he sees an improvement in his health.
Love Debbie xxx

Hi,

There is a good section on this website about complementary treatments : http://www.btbuddies.org.uk/complementary-therapies.html - I especially like the things that Ben Williams has to say. Ben Williams had been given less than a year to live when he started researching, this was more than fifteen years ago and he's still doing his research.

Very best of luck in getting the doctors to be optimistic in their treatment.

Andrew.

Debbie, it has been one year since your dad was diagnosed and treated. Do you still feel that the juices, vitamins and diet has been a positive influence on his health? Can you please give us an update on dad? Blessings....

Re:Alternative medicine 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Hi George - sorry, I only just spotted this!
Dad is doing pretty well, thanks. It's hard to say whether the juice and vitamins have helped or not, but his consultant is really pleased with him, and he has continued with the vitamins. He also drinks Aloe Vera juice every day, but has let the cherry juice slide a bit over the last couple of months, but we are going to start him back on it, for the simple reason it can't do any harm. Dad suffers from a weakness on his right side (his arm, hip, leg) which the consultant believes is probably down to a combination of the treatment, the drugs trial he is on (for Avastin) and the seizure he had several months ago. His speech also gets muddled, but in general I would say he is doing far better than we could ever dared imagine a year on.
I think dad's basic rule, when it comes to his health, is that yes he will take all the drugs the doctors give him, he will take all the vitamins and juices and healthy stuff we give him, he will go for the massages we book for him, but most of all, he will also eat and drink whatever else he likes (the odd pint, the odd packet of crisps, the odd fry-up, you get the picture)... because life is mainly about doing what makes you happy and if you can't enjoy life, what is the point! Which I can't really argue with.
I'm so pleased to see how well you are doing - I can only hope my dad follows in your footsteps. It's great to see you posting on here.
Love to everyone on here, stay strong.

My son always starts his day with a smoothie. He puts in broccolli, tomatoes, berries and any other fruit he has.
He also never drinks anything with phenylalanine added to it. Unfortunately its found in lots of squashes and fizzy drinks, you need to look for phenylalaline or aspartame on the label.
